Insights into Prayer

Jesus was asked by His disciples if He would teach them to pray like He did. He gave them the example prayer that we call the Lord’s prayer. You can have more insight into that prayer in this other article. In this short post I want to explain the importance of prayer.

The Bible says that Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. His Father is also called our Father. Imagine with me, the kindest, most compassionate Daddy that loves to lavish his love on you with unlimited resources. This is the very ONE you are going to with your needs and desires.

He is not a genie, so prayer is not like making three wishes that he will make come true. He is a spirit and knows the beginning of time from the end of time. He is well aware of all of your circumstances and He is sure of everything that makes each situation work together with your life as well as others so that good can come from all things. (see Romans 8:28)

Prayer can be as quiet as a thought or a whisper or as loud as a shout. It can be as comforting as a silent thank you while meditating on His goodness or it may be a distressed sob in the midst of a life-threatening moment. God says that He will never leave you or turn His back on you. (Hebrews 13:5)

In your entire life you may have never experienced anyone that you could count on. You may have never been able to depend on another person with your deepest secrets. God is THE ONE that breaks that mold.

He knows and understands you since He created you in your uniqueness. He loves completely and in more depth than we can ever comprehend. 1 John 4:8 says that God is love. Our improper and immature understanding of love relies greatly upon feelings, potentially only feelings in the moment.

Jesus entered this Earth in a human form in order to prove His perfect love. He reached out to individuals and groups of people to teach and to heal. He was moved with compassion (A) to heal.

He became the beloved shepherd of the human race which had wandered into the “green grass” of the enemy. Psalm 23 gives David’s recitation of the tenderness of such a shepherd. He comforts, leads, feeds, waters, and allows rest in the softest greenest pasture. He protects and even disciplines so that His sheep will be safe.

Meditating or focusing on God’s Word is a very important action that will extend your understanding of His dedication to you. It will cause you to become more dedicated to Him. It will also allow you to see Him as your betrothed (fiancé) and you as His beloved (bride-to-be).

Prayer and focused meditation on the Bible will increase the longevity and depth of your relationship with Him. The book of John describes His deity and His love extensively. Song of Songs, or also called the Song of Solomon gives insight into His passion for us.

Be Still and KNOW that I Am God. Psalm 46:10 tells us to sit quietly and get to know Him and His ways. It expands our knowledge of His tenderness when we focus on what He has done or what He is still doing. He created us with spiritual ears to hear His voice when we allow ourselves to be still.

Take time today and every day to sit still and listen for Him to speak to your heart. Read what His Bible says to you specifically. And be obedient to those loving whispers in your thoughts. Trust Him with all your ways and watch how things will work together for your good.
